Lyrics: Isaac Watts
Tune: Elisha West
Meter: L.M.D. (8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8)
Behold the Rose of Sharon here,
The lily which the valleys bear;
Behold the tree of life which gives
Refreshing fruits and healing leaves;
Beneath his cooling shade I sat
To shield me from the burning heat,
He saw me faint and o'er my head
The banner of his love he spread.
Amongst the thorns so lilies shine,
Amongst wild gourds, the noble vine;
So in my eyes my Saviour proves,
Amidst a thousand meaner loves;
With living bread and gen'rous wine,
He cheers this sinking heart of mine,
Of heav'nly fruit He spreads a feast,
To feed my eyes and please my taste.
